Needlework samplers have always had a facination for me, long before my interest in genealogy. I always appreciated them as an art form. Some express beauty through their simplicity, others express beauty in their fanciful design. Although I will continue to admire the design and workmanship of these pieces, I have come to consider their value as heirlooms and tangible connections to our ancestors. While my family tree is not rooted in either 16th or 17th English or American history, when samplers were historically executed, my sense of history and family pushed me to create a site which would link others to their ancestors.
I have collected names and dates found on samplers, and wherever available,
accompanying provenance from antique shops, shows and museums. I will continue
to add to this site as I discover more, and welcome additions from others who might
come across samplers in their travels.
