1. WILLIAM J. *RAWLINS was born Bet. 1760 - 1770, and died Before 1850 in Scioto, Ohio. He married NANCY MARSHALL Before 1800 in Washington, Pennsylvania, daughter of SAMUEL MARSHALL and FANNIE HAZELRIGG. She was born October 21, 1773 in Pennsylvania, and died September 9, 1869 in South Webster, Scioto, Ohio. The Hazelrigg Family has been documented back to before 1713.

The above heirs, "demanding partition of certain Real Estate herein after described The Sheriff of Scioto County was ordered to sell said Real Estate at public auction�did on the 24th day of May AD 1852 in said Scioto County sell said Real Estate at public auction subject the dower of Nancy RAWLINS " Property sold to, "Joseph JACKSON for the sum of two thousand and twenty dollars, he being the highest and best bidder
that sum being appraised of two thirds of the appraisal value of said premises�"

Description of Land: "being the South half of section No. Eighteen (18) Township No. four (4) of Range No. Eighteen (18) of the Lands directed to be sold at Chillicothe Ohio containing two hundred and Eighty Acres more or less�"

William RAWLINS originally purchased the acreage on November 30, 1813. It was part of the Congressional Lands.

William RAWLINS Jr. filed in the Scioto County Court of Common Pleas the following petition for a 1/10 share of 280 acres claimed by the heirs of his father, William J. RAWLINS. Case filed 23 Jan 1850. I have cited it already regarding the Rawlins heirs. Of note, is that William RAWLINS Jr the petitioner was a resident of Lawrence Co. In the 1850 census at Washington Twp, Lawrence Co. the following ROLLINS family was enumerated: William (56 b. OH);*Leatha(39); Catherine (15); Nancy (13); Darius (16); Samuel J. (7); Mary (5); HenryC. (3); and Emily (6 mos.). Also living next door per 1850 was Frank Border 22 and Firelda 16; and Hamilton R. ROLLINS 18. Lawrenece Co.
(Leatha and Letha are used interchangeably. I have correct all instantous to read Leatha to avoid confusion.)

Among the heirs of William J. RAWLINS & Nancy MARSHALL was a daughter, Cynthia RAWLINS who m. a Lemuel WASHBURN. She was deceased at the time of her fathers probate in Scioto Co., ca 1850.

2. WILLIAM RAWLINS Jr. ((Child of WILLIAM J. RAWLINS and Nancy Marshall) ) was born 1799 in Ohio, and died October 10, 1875 in Saline Co, Illinois. He married (1) ELIZABETH BENNETT July 15, 1817 in Gallia Co, Ohio. He married (2) LEATHA HARPER 10 September 30, 1830 in Lawerence, Ohio. She was born October 8, 1811 in Ohio, and died November 12, 1899 in Saline Co, Illinois.

This William J. Rollins/Rawlins lived in Scioto and Lawrence Co.,Ohio. His first wife was my great-great-great-great grandmother. She was Elizabeth Bennett. They had 3 children Minerva married Joseph Thompson, Charles (my great-great-great-grandfather), and Harrison Litton. He died in the civil war. He was injured at the battle of Gettysburg, and later died in a Baltimore Md. hospital. Leatha Harper is his second wife. William is the son of William and Nancy Marshall Rawlins/Rollins.

In 1860 and 1870 would have been old enough to leave the home. The basis for determining that John is a child of William Rawlins is the following court record.)

In the 1860 Illinois Federal Census of Hardin County, on page 884, a
Preston GRANDSTAFF, age 26, is listed with wife Nancy, age 23, and a 9
month old child Elizabeth. The census was taken 24 July, 1860. It is
highly likely that this is Leatha E. Grindstaff. She is the same age and
list Preston as her father. Her mother was most likely Nancy RAWLINGS.

States that Hugh Robinson was guardian of Leatha E. Rawlings, who consented to marriage of minor, and that her mother and father were dead.  She married William Price on Nov. 2, 1876 in Saline County, Illinois. He was 20 years old. He is the son of David R. Price.

He is not the Samuel Rawlins who married Mahala Grindstaff and died in 1873. That Samuel is the son of William Rawlins brother Samuel Rawlins born in 1810-1870. His son Samuel Jr. and his wife Mahala Grindstaff are in the census with Samuel Sr.. they are the parents of  John and Lacy Rawlins.

Note: David Price is supeoned to testify for Sarah Thomas against John Thomas, Rueben's parents. The divorce papers say that John was committing adultery and abandoned Sarah and the children.

4. SAMUEL RAWLINS (Child of WILLIAM J. RAWLINS and Nancy Marshall) was born Abt. 1810 in Scioto, Ohio, and died SEPTEMBER, 1870 in Saline Co, Illinois. m. CHARLOTTE MILLER divorced September 1865 No marriage record has been found but based on following divorce record, Charlotte Miller is assumed to be the mother of Samuel and Jesse Rawlins.

In the Saline Co. Illinois Chancery Records, Vol. I, 1847 - 1886,
June 1858, File #88 - Samuel Rawlins vs. Charlote (Miller) Rawlins,
Samuel Rawlins filed for a divorce on 15 Sep. 1865 for adultery. He claimed that she committed adultery with David Price; James Price is a witness confirming her relationship with David Price. She denied all charges.
