Among The Spark Plugs

Return to Escapes

A somewhat ingenious escape, was when a small statured prisoner acquired a large piece of asbestos and placed it over the motor of the family car of one of the employees. He crawled under the hood and closed it down. The car was driven to San Rafael by the lady of the house, and after it was parked, the little fellow stepped out from under the hood. He was picked up shortly after. The life of a fugitive is a difficult one and, unless there is assistance from the outside, the chance of a lasting freedom is small. The above type of escape would not be possible nowadays, with all of the air conditioning, filters and cleaners there is under the hood.
