It is intended to erect a brass tablet in St. Magdalene Church, Barnstaple, to the memory of Private BRAUND, who fought and died in South Africa. The tablet is completed and is ready for fixing. The inscription on it is as follows:- “Sacred to the memory of Sydney Herbert BRAUND, aged 24, of this parish, who died at Pretoria, June 26th, 1900, when serving with the 27th Company Imperial Yeomanry. - Erected by the officers of the R.N.D.I.Y.” Before volunteering for South Africa the deceased was a corporal in the Barnstaple Companies 4th V.B.D.R.
