BUCKS MILLS

P.s. ASHBY, of Budleigh Salterton, who has retired after 28 years' service with the police force, was formerly stationed at Bucks Cross.

On the occasion of our Patronal Festival, the Vicar and Mrs. WHITAKER kindly asked all the adults of the Parish to tea and games. In spite of the bad weather many turned up, and spent a most enjoyable time. At 7 o'clock a service was held in the Church which was attended by all denominations. In his address the Vicar pointed out, amongst other things, how thankful we ought to be that the Churchyard wall is again well restored and made worthy of its dead. This is the second year in which the Vicar and his wife have entertained the whole Parish which tenders to them its best thanks

The funeral of Mr. Francis Wm. BRAUND took place at St. Anne's Cemetery on Wednesday, August 9th, amid tokens of deep sympathy. The Rev. G. S. WHITAKER officiated. Deceased was the son of the late William and Mrs. Charlotte BRAUND and the mourners present were Mrs. BRAUND (mother); Mrs. COLWILL Northam, and Mrs. E. BRAUND, Bucks, (sisters); Mr. T. COLWILL, Northam, (brother-in-law); Mrs. GIST, Clovelly, (niece); Mr. COLWILL (nephew); Mr. John BRAUND (uncle); and Mrs. CHAMPION (cousin).

Messrs. Andrew SMALE, G. BRAUND, W. CUDMORE, R. BRAUND, J. SANDERS and T. JAMES (Horns Cross) acted as bearers. The floral tributes from relatives and friends were very beautiful. The coffin was of polished English oak with brass fittings.
