BIDEFORD.

THE LATE STATION MASTER. - The friends of Mr. HAYES, the late Station Master in this place, who left this country to take a similar appointment in India about two years since, will be glad to hear that he had been appointed Station Master at Bombay, at a salary of £1,4000 a-year, consequent on Col. KENNEDY resigning that office, on account of ill-health, to return to England.

LUNDY ISLAND FARM, for 12 years in the occupation of Capt. John LEE, of Clovelly, is now taken by a Mr. BLACKMORE, of Bishop's Lideard, for a term of 14 years. It contains 1,400 acres in cultivation, and is likely to answer better in the hands of a land than a sea-ploughman. Rent, £500 per annum.

THE NEW ROAD. - We hear that Mr. F. PALMER has offered to contract for making the New Road to the Station (a plan of which was laid before the Local Government Board this day (Wednesday). - The Railway Company have offered £100 towards the object, and the Local Government Board are taking up the subject warmly.

MECHANICS' AND LITERARY INSTITUTE. - On Thursday evening last, Mr. FITZGERALD gave an entertainment entitled “Sketches of Life and Character,” at the Town-hall, under the patronage of E. M. WHITE, Esq., (Mayor), for the benefit of the Mechanics' Institution. The Band of the 21st Rifle Volunteers was in attendance and gratified the audience with some excellent music. The hall was filled in every part, and the occasion is regarded as being most successful. A donation of £10 was announced from J. W. BULLER, Esq., towards the funds of the institution.

COUNTY MAGISTRATES' OFFICE, WEDNESDAY, Dec. 5th. - [Before Rev. J. T. P. COFFIN, Capt. PYKE, and G. F. MOLESWORTH, Esq.] - INTERRUPTION OF PUBLIC WORSHIP. - Harry BREND and John BREND appeared to answer the complaint of Capt. Joseph BRAUND, for that they did on Sunday evening last, break in the door of the Wesleyan Chapel, at Bucks Mills, to the annoyance of the congregation, therein worshipping. The charge being proved by his brother, Thomas BRAUND, they were leniently fined, being the first offence, amounting, with expenses, to £1 4s. - The Bench reprimanded them, stating that if again convicted of a similar offence, they would be fined £5, or be sent to Bridewell. - W. L. BRAGINTON, Esq., of Knapp Houses, Northam, was appointed High Constable of Shebbear North.
