BUCKS MILL.
THE funeral of the late Captain James BRAUND, of Sea View Cottage, Bucks Mills, took place at Bucks Mills Church on February 23rd, and was attended by over two hundred people, who came to pay the last act of respect towards the esteemed veteran, who had reached the age of 88 years, eight of his grandchildren bearing him to the grave. The deceased leaves a family of five sons and four daughters, fifty grandchildren, and thirty-six great grandchildren. For about thirty years he has been broken down by age and infirmity. He was known far and near as “The King of Bucks Mills.” The large number of visitors and parties frequenting this very delightful watering-place, were often charmed at his performances on the violin, and also his quaint recitation on the “Braunds of Bucks Mill.” He was one of the few survivors of a generation of men now fast passing away. His simple boast was that he never lost a vessel, nor a single soul, all the years he commanded, but he was actually in God's providence the means of saving some twelve lives at sea. His well-known face will be much missed in the neighbourhood.
