FUNERAL AT BARNSTAPLE.

The funeral took place at Barnstaple on Saturday, amidst many manifestations of regret and sympathy, of George BRAUND, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. BRAUND, of Newport, Barnstaple, who died after a short illness at the Isolation Hospital at Barnstaple on Tuesday, at the early age of 18 years. The interment was made in the Cemetery, the service, which was of a most impressive nature, being conducted by the Vicar of Newport (the Rev. W. RICHARDS). The immediate mourners were the deceased's father and mother, Miss Annie BRAUND (sister), Miss Lily WAKELEY, and Messrs. W. BARTLETT and F. BAKER. Detachments of both the Boy Scouts, of which the deceased was one of the Patrol leaders (under Scout-masters WILLIAMS and ACKLAND and Assistant Scout-master GAMMON), and the Church Lads' Brigade (under Lance-Corporal JEFFERY) were present as a last mark of respect. The coffin, which was covered with the Union Jack, was drawn from the Hospital to the Cemetery by members of the Scouts on a hand-bier, the bearers at the Cemetery b ing <sic> deceased's workfellows at the Barnstaple Cabinet Works, Messrs. PENIFIELD, R. KETTLEWELL, J. THOMAS, BURGESS, F. WEBSTER, and W. BRENT. At the conclusion of the service, ex-leader HARRIS of the Scouts, sounded the “Last Post.” The beautiful floral tributes included wreaths from the father, mother and sister, the Boy Scouts (worked in the Scouts' colours and bearing the ribbons of the Patrol), deceased's fellow-workmen, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. JEWELL, Mr. and Mrs. WEBBER, Mr. and Mrs. BRIGGS and MAUDE, Mr. and Mrs. SQUIRE and family, Mr. and Mrs. BAKER, and “all the neighbours.”
