John ROOKLEY, of Kentisbeare, was charged with stealing a barrel, the property of Edward CANNAFORD. - Mr. BURROWS defended. - The prosecutor's son took the barrel to Mr. HAWKINS to get it filled with cider, and left it by the barn-door. - Henry POTTER, a carter, was passing by the place, and was asked by the prisoner to take home the barrel for him. The prisoner said he supposed it was a lost barrel. - P.C. NOSWORTHY apprehended the prisoner, who told him he had returned the barrel to the place where it was found. - The Bench considered there was some doubt in the matter, and discharged the prisoner.
