A FOUL TRANSACTION.
John BOWLES, Kentisbeare, farmer, was charged with having five dead fowls in his possession, and not giving a satisfactory account of the same. John ROOKLEY, Kentisbeare, labourer, was charged with complicity. On Sunday morning, at half-past four, P.C. HOLWILL being on the “look-out” saw the prisoners on the highway. He stopped them, and on searching BOWLES found nets in one pocket and a chicken in the other; ROOKLEY had a net and four fowls. BOWLES said that he “picked them up on the road.” Remanded till Wednesday.
