Our Holsworthy correspondent writes:- Mr George BRAUND, of Park View, Holsworthy, who has been ailing for some considerable time, died on Wednesday at the ripe age of 80. The deceased's ancestors were owners of Braundsworthy, Blacktorrington, an estate called after the family name. Deceased's father was a wholesale woollen draper at Exeter, where deceased was born. His mother died, and his father married a Holsworthy lady, Miss KELLY, sister to Mr Marwood KELLY, founder of Kelly College, Tavistock – which college the founder surely intended for his native(?) town, Holsworthy. Mr BRAUND came to Holsworthy in the capacity of surveyor, and practised for a time as an auctioneer. In 1845 he was appointed Superintendent Registrar and in 1849 Clerk(?) to Board of Guardians. A staunch Churchman and in politics a Conservative. Mr BRAUND was well read, quick with his pen and a good accountant. He was a pleasant neighbour and had a kindly and cheerful disposition. His wife né HEARN, died several years ago.
