VIRGINSTOWE

The mortal remains of the late Mrs. BRAUND whose death we announce in another column, were yesterday laid to rest in the quiet little churchyard of St. Brigets. A large gathering attended to pay a last tribute of respect to one who had endeared herself to all classes, practically every home in the immediate neighbourhood being represented. Prior to the cortege leaving the house, the hymn “Rock of Ages” was sung. The remains were then conveyed to the church by hearse, and the sacred edifice was filled to its utmost capacity, many being unable to gain admission. The service, which was choral, was performed by the vicar, the Rev. E. R. P. ROWE. The hymns sung were “How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds” and “Jesu, lover of my soul.” Mr. F. CRABB presided at the organ, and played appropriate music as the large congregation assembled, and “I will lay me down in peace” as the solemn procession left for the graveside. The immediate mourner were Messrs. Frank, Bert, John, Sam, and Tom BRAUND (sons), the Misses Helena and Eva BRAUND (daughters), Mrs. W. COLE and Mrs. YEO (nieces), Mrs. LYLE, and other relatives. The official bearers were Messrs. BANBURY, FRY, MARTIN, STANBURY, TUBB, and YEO. The coffin was of polished oak with massive brass fittings. The plate bore the inscription: “Charity Braund, died 16th August 1915, aged 83 years.” The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. John DAVY, and the hearse and carriages were supplied by Mr. Brendon PARSONS, of Launceston. The beautiful floral tributes included the following:- “With love, from Jack.” “In affectionate remembrance from all at 'Scotland.'” “With deepest sympathy from grandchildren (Lifton),” “Sincere sympathy from Sharon,” “With deepest sympathy from M. JASPER (niece),” “With deepest sympathy from Mrs. ROWLAND and daughters,” and “In remembrance of an old friend from E. CASWITHEN.”
