PARKHAM

The first to fall for his country is Dennis BRAUND, of Bucks Mills. Recently he was wounded in both arms, and hopes were bright that he might get better. Only recently he wrote home saying he hoped to be home in a short time. However, a telegram was received on Tuesday that he had succumbed to his injuries.

A jumble sale has been held in the Council School in aid of funds for the District Nursing Association of Alwington, Buckland Brewer, and Parkham, and the egg collection for the sick and wounded soldiers amounted to 107.

The recent showers have put a proper green mantle on the grass and corn lands. Apparently an abundance of grass prevails, and the corn is growing well with a very promising outlook for a bounteous harvest.

The latest addition to the roll of honour is T. NEALE, of Bocombe.

We have lost another aged inhabitant in the person of Mrs. Betsy BRENT, of Kilvenstool. Deceased had been in failing health for some time, and a wire also brought the news of the death of Mr. William GRIGG, formerly of this parish. Deceased was the son of the late Mr. Richard GRIGG.

Pte. Dennis BRAUND, of the Devons, a native of Parkham, died in hospital on Tuesday from wounds received in action.
