BLACK TORRINGTON.

On Thursday the last representative of an ancient and honoured family – the RISDONs of Haytor – passed away in the person of Mr. James RISDON, the youngest son of Mr. George Smale RISDON, who died in 1889 at the advanced age of 93. Mr. James RISDON had himself passed the age of 82 years. About a week before his death he took cold, which developed into bronchitis, and lastly pneumonia. His illness aroused much sympathy, as it was feared that his age and frailty might not survive. He passed peacefully away about 1 p.m., and the passing bell conveyed the sad news to his neighbours. He had been the rector's churchwarden for several years, and had served as school manager fulfilling his duties quietly and faithfully. The funeral on Monday was attended by a large number from the immediate neighbourhood and representatives from an extensive area, Messrs. PENHALE, RISDON, PETER, OKE, etc. (Holsworthy), Mr. PIPER, senr. (Thornbury), Mr. W. BROWN (Cookbury), Mr. and Mrs. W. P. HUTCHINGS (Bradford), Mr. and Mrs. DUFTY (Northlew), etc., etc. The coffin was borne to the church by the following: Messrs. R. J. HUTCHINGS, G. COPPLESTONE, J. OSBORNE, STADDON, F. FRY, and A. J. KELLY; and there met by the Rev. T. BUNCOMBE (Rector) and Rev. A. E. DONALDSON (Rector of Pyworthy), who conducted the service. The hymns, “I heard the Voice of Jesus say” and “Now the labourer's task is o'er,” were sung, and as the procession left the church the “Dead March” was played. The relatives attending were: Mr. and Mrs. H. HARDING, Mr. and Mrs. E. HARDING (nephews and nieces), Mr. and Mrs. RISDON (cousins), Mr. and Mrs. LUXTON (nephew and niece), Mrs. BALKWILL (niece), Mr. and Mrs. F. LEACH (nephew and niece), Mr. and Mrs. BROWNE and Miss MILL (cousins). Floral offerings were sent by Mrs. RISDON and family, and from the National School-children; Kit and family; Edwin and Annie; Miss E. MILL; Mr. and Mrs. H. G. BROWNE; Mr. and Mrs. B. Coham FLEMING; Rev., Mrs. and Miss BUNCOMBE; Mr. and Mrs. G. CANDLER; Messrs. KELLY; Mr. and Mrs. J. CHAPMAN; Mr. J. B. BORN and family; Mr. and Mrs. R. J. HUTCHINGS; Mr. and Mrs. E. J.
