ASHWATER.

The United Methodist at Buckhorn celebrated their Sunday School anniversary on Sunday and Monday. The preacher Sunday was Mr. GERMAN. On Monday a children's service was conducted by the Rev. TREZISE. The scholars were entertained to tea, and a public tea followed. The evening service was presided over by Mrs. TREZISE and recitation were well rendered by the following scholars: May JEFFERY, Cyril BUSE, Betty YELLAND, Margaret STADDON, Fred BUSE, Mary YELLAND, Kathleen BUSE, Horace YELLAND, Iris MAY, Kenneth STADDON, Oswald YELLAND, Wilfrid SQUIRE, Phyllis BUSE, John JEFFERY, Lilian YELLAND, Wyndham SANDERS, Winnifred SQUIRE, Willie JONES, Alice HARRY, Wallace BADCOCK, Freda PROUSE, and Stanley STADDON. The hon. sec. (Mr. JEFFERY) gave an encouraging report which showed total receipts to be £12 2s 6d; expenses £8 11s 3d; balance in hand, £3 11s 3d; number of scholars 28; teachers, 6. Mrs. ISAAC, who was at the organ, was assisted by Mrs. W. BADCOCK, (cello), Messrs. J. JORY, J. DANIEL and H. BADOCK (violins).

The funeral of Mrs. W. COLE, whose death we announced last week took place on Friday, at the United Methodist Chapel, and was largely attended. Before leaving the house prayer was offered by Rev. TREZISE. The service at the chapel was conducted by Rev. W. L. GIBBS, assisted by Rev. TREZISE. Miss L. GRIFFIN presided at the organ. Immediate mourners were Mrs. J. NORTHCOTT, Mrs. C. BARKER, Mrs W. W. STRIBLEY, Mrs. V. STEPHENS, Mrs. S. ROCKEY (daughters), Messrs. W. H., H., and C. COLE (sons), Mr. J. H. TUBB, Mrs. W. JASPER (brother and sister), Mrs. W. H. COLE and Mrs. H. COLE (daughters-in-law), Messrs. J. H. NORTHCOTT, W. W. STRIBLEY, V. STEPHENS, S. ROCKEY (sons-in-law), Master C. COLE (grandson), Miss M. JASPER, Miss M. YEO, Mrs. J. COLWILL, Miss E. TUBB, Mrs. O. CRABB, Mrs. H. DURRANT (nieces), Messrs. W., S., T., W. H., Walter, and A. COLE, J. F. TUBB (nephews), Mr. S. COLE senr. (brother-in-law), Mrs. A. COLE (sister-in-law), Mrs. W. DAVEY, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. STANBURY, Mr. and Mrs. J. STANBURY, and Mr. J. BRAUND (cousins). The coffin was of plain oak. Deceased was aged 72 years. The official bearers were Messrs. H. STRIBLEY, F. STEPHENS, R. H. CLIFTON, R. SOBEY, H. SPRY, and L. MAY. There were many lovely floral tributes.
