Mr. John TOOZE, Holcombe Rogus.

The funeral took place in Holcombe Rogus churchyard of Mr. John TOOZE, of Home Pitt, Holcombe Rogus, a highly esteemed resident, whose death at the age of 46 occurred after a protracted illness. Deceased was a quarryman employed at the Fenacre stone quarry for many years, and had a good reputation for industry and cheery disposition. He was taken ill about seven months ago, and for the past 13 weeks had been treated at the Ivybank Sanatorium. Throughout his painful illness he maintained his happy disposition. His death is deeply regretted by many. Prior to their coming to Home Pitt, about four years ago, Mr. and Mrs. TOOZE had resided at Staple Cross, Hockworthy, for 15 years.

At the service in the church, Rev. E. J. BARTON (vicar) officated.

The family mourners were the widow, Spr. S. J. TOOZE, R.E. (son), Miss A. TOOZE (daughter), Messrs. J. TOOZE, Ashbrittle, M. TOOZE, Mrs RAWCLIFFE, Witheridge, Mr. P. TOOZE, Mrs. GODDARD, Tedburn Farm (brothers and sisters), Mrs. J. TOOZE, Mr. J. GODDARD, Mrs. P. TOOZE, Mr. L. PERRY, Mr. W. PERRY, Staple Cross, Mrs. M. TOOZE, Bampton, Mrs. L. PERRY, Mr. W. The bearers were Messrs. H. REDWOOD, F. SHATTOCK, W. PODBURY (Hockworthy) and J. JONES (Huntsham).

The coffin was inscribed: “John Tooze, died Dec. 14, 1941; aged 46 years. R.I.P.”
