TRESSPASS IN PURSUIT.

James ROOKLEY, Kentisbeare, labourer, was charged with, on the 13th inst., tresspassing in pursuit of game in Blackborough Wood. Esau WOOD deposed to on the day in question seeing defendant with three gins (produced) near the corpse gate. Witness had seen the gins previously set, and when he spoke to defendant he threw the gins in the hedge. P.C. DYMENT gave corroborative evidence. Defendant – an old offender – did not appear, and was fined 40s including costs, or a month.

Wm. ROOKLEY, son of the last defendant, was charged with trespassing on lands belonging to Genl. DREWE, Broadhembury, in search of game. - John MARSHALL, gamekeeper to General DREWE, deposed to seeing defendant on the 15th inst. enter land occupied by Mr. BLACKMORE, put down some nets, and put a ferret into a hole. Defendant ran away when he saw witness, but MARSHALL called out he knew him, and he stopped. On going up witness found a rabbit and a ferret in one of the nets. - Fined 30s including costs, or a month. [Genl. DREWE, who left the Bench during the hearing of the case, asked that the ferret and nets might be forfeited.]
