CULLOMPTON. - The Cullompton petty session was held on Monday before the Rev. J. P. SYDENHAM, the Rev. J. HUYSHE, and C. R. COLLINS, Esq., when William HODGES, of Plymtree, was summoned by Mr. SAUNDERS for not complying with a notice of ejectment; but the case was adjourned. - Richard KING, junior, of Cullompton, for an intemperate vagary, was fined 12s., including costs. - John PURCHASE, of Cullompton, admitted a free indulgence of liquor stronger than milk; but the case was dismissed upon his payment of costs. - Henry LAND, butcher, of Cullompton, was fined 16s., including the expenses, for not keeping himself within the limits of temperance. - James WELLINGTON, roper, of Cullompton, was fined 5s., with the expenses, for imtemperance; and a similar charge was preferred against John BURROWS, of Cullompton, whose case was dismissed upon the payment of costs. - James ROOKLEY, labourer, of Kentisbear, was summoned for assaulting Mr. William HAWKINS. The defendant was engaged in some drainage work for the complainant, who complained of the way in which the work was done. This led to an altercation, and the defendant threatened to dash out the brains of his employer. ROOKLEY admitted that he had threatened the complainant, but it was owing to the great provocation. Fined 10s., with the expenses; and ROOKLEY was bound over to keep the peace for six months towards Mr. HAWKINS. Richard GIBBINGS was charged with stealing oats from Mr. George GILLHAM, of Burlescombe. The accused admitted the theft; but as he had worked for forty years for Mr. GILLHAM and had not before transgressed the case was dismissed. - George TARRINGTON, painter, of Cullompton, was summoned for assaulting William QUICK. Meeting at the Railway Hotel on the preceding Thursday the disputants agreed to “toss” for something to drink. QUICK won, and he playfully patted the other on the back. TARRINGTON was not one of those happy individuals who laugh when they have lost, and his monkey getting up he violently struck QUICK. Fined 30s., including the expenses.
