CULLOMPTON.

STEALING DUCKS. - At the Sessions House, on Monday, before the Rev. J. P. SYDENHAM, John ROOKLEY, of Kentisbeare, labourer, was charged by Mr. Edward HAWKINS, farmer, with stealing, on the 13th April last, three ducks, from his premises. It appeared that the prisoner was seen on that day by Robert SPRAGUE driving some ducks up the stream, called Moorhays Stream, near the complainant's, and that on the following day the latter found three ducks missing. On receiving information from SPRAGUE he obtained a search warrant, and placed it in the hands of Superintendent DAVEY, who on searching the house, found a duck, with some giblets, and a quantity of feathers. The feathers corresponded with some that were picked up by the complainant near the stream where the defendant was driving the ducks. The prisoner absconded, and has kept out of the way for ten months and upwards, but he was captured on Sunday evening last, about ten o'clock, through the activity of Superintendent DAVEY. - The prisoner was committed for trial at the Assizes.
