FUNERAL OF MR. J. BROMFIELD
The funeral took place at Gillingham on Thursday, of Mr. James BROMFIELD, of South-street, Gillingham, a well-known figure in the town, who died on Monday, in his 75th year. Born in Devon, Mr. BROMFIELD lived for some years at Bath, and had lived in Gillingham since 1916. He worked as a blacksmith for the late Mr. EDWARDS, but gave up work about nine years ago. A long and painful illness preceded his death. Mr. and Mrs. BROMFIELD have been members of Gillingham Baptist Church all the time they have lived in the town, but as there is now no resident Baptist Minister at Gillingham, the funeral service which preceded the interment in the Cemetery on Thursday, was held at the Queen-street Methodist Church, the Rev. Thomas BATES officiating.
Members of the family present were:- Mrs. BROMFIELD, widow; Mr. Edwin BROMFIELD (Bath), brother; Mrs. E. COOK (Axminster) and Mrs. D. WARD (Honiton), sisters; Mr. H. HAYWARD (Devizes) and Mr. S. TILLEY (All Cannings), brothers-in-law; Mr. A. WELCH, Mrs. BATTEN (Branscombe), Misses Lilian and Laura BROMFIELD (Taunton), Mr. and Mrs. J. CARE (Newton Abbott), and Mr. John BROMFIELD, nephews and nieces.
There were also present Mr. and Mrs. J. OZZARD, Mr. and Mrs. W. OZZARD, Mr. D. RAWLINS, Mrs. JOHNSON, Mrs. W. HULL, Miss RAWLINS and Mr LAWLEY.
There were many beautiful floral tributes from relatives and friends, including one from the members of the Gillingham Baptist Church.
