DEATH AND FUNERAL OF MR. J. H. WARREN. -The death took place on Friday of last week of Mr. John Hooper WARREN, of Manor Farm, Catcott, a well-known and very highly respected agriculturist. The deceased gentleman, who was fifty-five years of age, was the son of Mr. Joseph WARREN, whose family has been connected with the village of Catcott almost a century. He had rented the Manor Farm under the late Mr. J. G. HENNIKER for nearly thirty years, and had been a good farmer. For most of that time he had been assistant overseer, and thus collected the rates for the parish. He married the daughter of the late Mr. HURFORD, of Catcott, and had nine children, who are left with his widow to mourn his loss. He was a man of sterling character, conscientious to the last degree, and on this account won the esteem of those who knew him. In the year 1901, when a Gospel Tent Mission was conducted at Edington by Mr. H. HITCHMAN, he attended, with his family, and so appreciated the clear expositions of Scripture that he became an ardent supporter of the mission, was one of the first to be baptised by immersion, and he helped to commence the church which was then formed. He took a deep interest in the erection of the Edington Gospel-hall, using his horses to help haul the bricks, and also contributing with his means. He was unanimously elected to be the treasurer of the church, and discharged his duties in the most satisfactory way until, through illness, he was obliged to resign. He was large-hearted and much enjoyed entertaining preachers. He was in ill-health for some time, and under the medical care of Dr. CAMPBELL. When he became worse he consulted a specialist, who confirmed the doctor's report that he was suffering from an internal malady. He gradually grew worse, and passed away as stated. - The funeral took place on Thursday last, when the first part of the service was held in the Gospel-hall, and the latter portion in the Catcott Churchyard. The burial service was conducted by Mr. H. HITCHMAN, assisted by Mr. F. MANSFIELD, and the undertaking was ably carried out by Mr. H. BARNETT, Shapwick (a fellow member of the church). The high esteem in which the deceased was held was evidenced by the large number of friends who attended the funeral, among whom were Mrs. WARREN (widow), Messrs. S. WARREN, A. WARREN, Arthur WARREN (sons), the Misses. F. and B.WARREN, M. WARREN, N. WARREN, B. WARREN (daughters), Mr. and Mrs. W. ACREMAN, Messrs. H. HURFORD, F. HURFORD, George HURFORD, John HURFORD (brothers of the widow), Mrs. J. HURFORD, Mrs. WEBB, Mr. DENMEAD, Mr. BEER, Mr. Geo. A special memorial service was held in the Gospel-hall on Sunday evening, when Mr. H. HITCHMAN gave a special address to a large congregation.
