GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATION AT WEST PENNARD.

MR. AND MRS. S. CREED'S JUBILEE.

Two of the oldest and most respected inhabitants of West Pennard, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney CREED, attained the fiftieth anniversary of their entrance upon married life on Sunday last, and the event was celebrated with a family re-union and rejoicings on Tuesday, at Southtown House where they now reside. Mr. Sidney CREED was the son of the late Mr. Robert CREED, of Southtown Farm, and succeeded his father in the business, which he continued till seven years ago, when he was in turn succeeded by his son, Mr. Harden CREED, and went to live at the adjacent residence, so that he has spent all his life at Southtown. Mrs. Ann Hawkins CREED is a native of Berrow, near Burnham, the daughter of the late Mr. Harden CHAMPION, who shortly after her birth went to reside at South Brent, and later came to West Pennard and farmed at Woodlands Farm. The family included the founder of the famous firm of Messrs. CHAMPION, the wholesale confectioners, of Bristol. Mr. Sidney CREED and Miss A. H. CHAMPION were married at West Pennard Parish Church on April 25, 1876, by the late Rev. Thomas Partridge NUNN, Vicar of the parish. They have two sons and two daughters, Mr. Harden CREED, of Southtown, Mr. Robert CREED, of Crewkerne, Mrs. Alfred TURNER, of East Street, West Pennard, and Mrs. Trevor TURNER, of Pylle, the two sisters having married two brothers of another well-known Pennard family. There are a round dozen of grand children. Mr. Sidney CREED, who is 79 years of age, his wife being a couple of years his junior, has filled many public offices in the parish. For about twenty years, till the last election, he represented it on the Rural District Council and Board of Guardians at Wells. He was several times overseer, and in the older days way-warden. He was churchwarden for many years, and one of the first members of the Parish Council. He has taken an active part in all the public parochial celebrations, being on the Jubilee, and Diamond Jubilee and Coronation Committees, and did other work in connection with local events. During his period as churchwarden the restoration of the tower was successfully carried through. He was an active member of the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Show Committee, and a successful exhibitor with horses and cheese, in the latter obtaining notices for every exhibit ever made. In commemoration of the golden wedding the ringers of West Pennard rang two quarter peals of Grandsire Doubles of 1,260 changes each on Tuesday. For the first quarter peal, rung in the morning, the ringers stood: 1, W. KENT; 2, B. DUNKERTON; 3, J. FARTHING; 4, G. PHELPS; 5, the Rev. E. S. C. LOCK; tenor, W. PHELPS. In the afternoon for the second quarter peal the following rang: 1, W. KENT; 2, J. W. PICKETT; 3, T. MOGG; 4, B. DUNKERTON; 5, the Rev. E. S. C. LOCK; tenor, G. PHELPS. Both touches were conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. E. S. C. LOCK, Master of the Diocesan Guild. The family gathering on that day was of a very interesting character.
