100 – SMOKES CLAY PIPE AND DRINKS BEER!
Centenarian Mrs. Sarah HAYES, of Trebannog, made her first public speech on Wednesday, when she attended the annual dinner of the Cardiff Somerset Club.
Mrs. HAYES, who celebrated her hundredth birthday on Christmas Eve, is a native of Chilcompton, Somerset.
Mrs. HAYES, with perfect use of her faculties, attributes her good health to her clay pipe, some shag and a pint of beer a day.
Sixty years ago she was critically ill, and her doctor told her to smoke a pipe.
“He brought me a pipe instead of medicine,” said Mrs. HAYES. “It almost killed me at the time, but now tobacco is more important than food.” She took her clay pipe to the dinner, and immediately “The King” was toasted she lit up.
