SOUTH PETHERTON.

OUR SOLDIERS IN AFRICA. - A mee ing <sic> of the local promoters of the scheme for giving each soldier in Africa a Christmas parcel was held on Thursday at King Ina's Palace, and by reason of the liberal resp onse <sic> to an urgent appeal, a large consignment, consisting of plum puddings, tobacco, pipes, cigarettes, cigars, chocolate, Christmas cards, soap, house-wives, stationery, handkerchiefs, note books, and pencils, knitted goods, &c., were sent to the proper quarter in Surrey on Saturday, there to be sorted and made up into parcels for each soldier. In addition to the above there were contributions of money, which will be sent to another fund. Among the gifts were cigarettes from the South Petherton branch of the C.L.B., in addition to some offerings from members of the Women's Bible Class. For the willing and generous response to her appeal Mrs. HOSKYNS wishes to convey her thanks to all who assisted in so good a cause.
