WEST PENNARD.

PARISH MEETING AND COUNCIL. - The annual Parish Meeting was held in the Church school-room on Monday evening last, present, Mr. W. HAGGETT (chairman), Councillors Messrs. F. CREED, W. BROWN, F. GRINTER, C. HEAL and W. J. ROE, and the clerk (Mr. E. PADFIELD), also Rev. Preb. GRESLEY, Messrs. S. ROGERS, J. PIKE and A. G. COOMBE. - The first business was the reading of the trustees' accounts of the Marquise de Salvo Charity, by which it appeared that at the last distribution 109 recipients received £23/10/0, leaving a balance in hand of £1/15/4. On the proposition of Mr. F. CREED, seconded by Mr. W. J. ROE, it was agreed that the chairty <sic> be distributed in future on the fist Saturday after the 10th January. - The Clerk read the report of the committee of inspection appointed by the Rural District Council to inspect the road where it was proposed to make a path. Not only did the Committee think the road was wide enough for the path, but also thought it would be a great improvement and of great use to school children and church goers. They further recommended that the Rural District Council give £10 towards the expense, the rest to be charged to the parish, with the exception of the £25 kindly promised by Rev. Preb. GRESLEY. As, however, the County Council have to sanction the work before it can be started, the path will probably not be commenced until July. - This being all the business of the Parish meeting, the Councillors held their usual quarterly meeting. The Clerk informed the Council that the Trustees of the Bible Christian Chapel would not consent to cutting off a part of the corner of their ground on account of the graves there, but had made it less dangerous by cutting back the hedge. - A letter was received from Mr. F. CHAMPION, resigning his seat on the Council, on account of his leaving the parish. Mr. CHAMPION's resignation was accepted, and Mr. GRINTER proposed that a reply be sent acknowledging his letter and appreciating his remarks to the Council. The question of electing another Councillor to fill Mr. CHAMPION's place was left over till the next meeting. - A complaint having been made of a land slip in Mogg's hole hill, the clerk was instructed to send a notice ordering the same to be removed.
