GLASTONBURY.

SALE OF AN HISTORIC FARM. - Mr. Robert BOWRING, of Wells and Glastonbury, offered for sale by public auction on Thursday last week, a compact freehold dairy farm, known as Norwood Park farm, which has been for the past century, or nearly that time, the property of the SWANTON family. The sale was entrusted to Mr. BOWRING by the representatives of the late Mrs. SWANTON. The farm was formerly part of the Glastonbury Abbey Estate, and the farm was built by Abbot John SELWOOD in 1565, and a large portion of the original building still remains. The farm house was one of the residences of the Abbots of Glastonbury. The proverty <sic> was divided into seven lots, of which four, comprising the farm house and lands were purchased by Mr. Ernest JARDINE for £6,450, including timber. Mr. JARDINE is to be congratulated on having secured another large portion of the Abbey Estates, comprising about 157 acres. Lot 3, 1¼ acres of nursery land at Glastonbury, was sold to Mr. William HEAL at £50. Lot 6, a valuable orchard of 3¼ acres, at Steanbow, in the occupation of Mr. W. C. SWANTON, was purchased by Mr. A. E. NALDER, of Shepton Mallet, for a client, at £120; and Lot 7, a piece of pasture land, 16a. 0r. 33p., at Westholm, Pilton, also in the occupation of Mr. SWANTON, went to Mr. John DAVIS, of North Wootton, at £825, and £26 for the timber. There was a large attendance present at the sale, which attracted considerable attention. Messrs. Bath & Austin were solicitors to the vendors.
