EFFORT FOR DISTRICT NURSING ASSOCIATION AND HOSPITAL APPLE TREES. - A sale organised by Miss MUSGROVE, took place in the Institute Room. A cake competition was keenly contested, and prizes were won by the following:- Fruit cake – 1, Mrs. E. GLIDE; 2, Mrs. DRINKWATER; 3, Mrs. John BURT. Sponge sandwich – 1, Mrs. B. PREW. Small cakes – 1, Mrs. DRINKWATER; 2, Mrs. H. PAULL. Mr. F. HEMBROW kindly judged, and the cakes were sold in aid of the funds. The effort resulted in £3 being added to the village apple tree for the Taunton Hospital and another £3 for the Nursing Association. Miss MUSGROVE, who worked very hard, is grateful to those who assisted her.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. - The two meetings arranged to take place in the open-air has this year been marred by the weather. The July meeting took place at Beercrocombe, by the kind invitation of Mrs. B. PREW, who spared no pains to make it attractive. Following the business talk the Hon. Mrs. LINDLEY spoke of the market stall in her usual bright and entertaining manner, and urged the Institute members to do their best in supporting it. Mr. W. D. HAY (organiser Cannington Farm Institute) spoke about the general management of the Institute and the method of obtaining admission. He was thanked by Mrs. GLIDE. The competition, “Bits and wits.” was judged by Mrs. LINDLEY, who awarded 10 marks to Mrs. ROWSELL and 9 to Miss May KEATES. Mrs. LINDLEY was thanked by Mrs. B. PREW. A sumptuous tea, which was given by Mrs. PREW, was much enjoyed by the members. Competitions followed tea, and a pleasant afternoon came to a close all too quickly. Mrs. WALSH (president) proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs. PREW for her hospitality and generosity.
