THE LATE DR. R. H. VEREKER
IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL TRIBUTES
FREEMASONS LINE CHURCHYARD PATH
Members of public bodies, Freemasons, and many villagers filled Curry Rivel Church on Monday afternoon, when the funeral took place of Dr. R. H. VEREKER.
A simple service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. J. H. D. MAUDE ROXBY), who also performed the last rites in the churchyard.
The body, in a waxed oak casket with oxidised silver fittings, was borne by Messrs. J. H. SILGO, P. MOUNTER, W. PROLES, J. HALL, C. BAKER, and H. PERRY.
A full-length cross and three wreaths were sent by the members of the family; there were no other floral tributes by request.
Members of the “Portcullis” (Langport) Lodge of Freemasons followed the cortege from the house to the church and lined the pathway when the coffin was carried in. After the burial each member dropped a sprig of acacia into the grave.
