CHEDDON RECTOR'S DAUGHTER

MARRIED TO BRUTON MUSIC MASTER

CEREMONY AT FATHER'S CHURCH

The marriage took place on Tuesday at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Taunton, of Miss Dorothy Eileen Baumont GRAHAM, second daughter of the Rector of the parish, the Rev. Christopher GRAHAM, O.B.E., R.N., and Mrs. GRAHAM, and Mr. John Reginald Martin SMITH, music master at King's School, Bruton, and second son of Mr. Ernest SMITH, of Oxford, and the late Mrs. SMITH.

The bride formerly held a teaching appointment at a school at Exmouth.

Bishop C. F. De SALIS, Archdeacon of Taunton, officiated, assisted by the bride's father, and the Rev. Dr. C. W. C. INGLES, late chaplain to the Fleet and chaplain to H.M. the King, and a former rector of the parish.

The church was beautifully decorated by parishioners, a large number of whom attended.

Members of Bruton Parish Church Choir combined with the Cheddon choir for the choral service. Mr. S. SANSOM was the organist and played bridal music from Wagner's “Lohengrin” and the Festal March, “Nun Danket” by Karg-Elert. The hymns “O Holy Spirit, Lord of Grace,” “Rejoice to-day with one accord,” and “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us,” were sung, and Psalm 67, “God be merciful unto us and bless us” was chanted.

LACE FROM GRANDMOTHER'S VEIL.

The bride's gown was of pony-skin satin, and her veil, which was of silk net, was trimmed with Honiton lace, from the wedding veil of her grandmother. Her bouquet was of white roses.

She was given away by her brother, Mr. J. F. O. S. GRAHAM.

The bride had seven attendants – five bridesmaids and two pages. The bridesmaids were her two sisters, Miss G. R. GRAHAM and Miss E. GRAHAM, Miss N. SMITH, sister of the bridegroom, Miss P. GRAHAM, the bride's godchild, and Miss M. V. McINTYRE, a college friend of the bride. The two pages were Master B. GRAHAM, the bride's brother and godson, and Master J. STEIN. The latter's mother was one of the bridesmaids at the wedding of the bride's mother.

BRIDE DESIGNS DRESSES.

The bridesmaids' dresses were designed by the bride, and consisted of green lace over blue taffeta. They wore silk net head-dresses with wreaths of white roses, and carried old fashioned posies of flowers.

Mr. Peter BOURNE was “best man.”

The bride's mother wore a silver beaded blue dress with grey hat, shoes and stockings.

The bridegroom's present to the bride was a fitted dressing case and writing case. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a music cabinet.

The bridesmaids received the following gifts as souvenirs of the ceremony:- Miss G. GRAHAM, writing case book ends; Miss H. SMITH, mirror; Miss M. V. McINTYRE, art case; Miss E. GRAHAM, book ends; Miss P. GRAHAM, bracelet; Master J. STEIN and Master B. GRAHAM, the two pages, and Mr. P. BOURNE and Mr. J. GRAHAM were each presented with cuff links.

SECRET HONEYMOON.

Following the ceremony, about 200 guests attended the reception, which was held at the Rectory.

Later the bride and bridegroom left for a secret honeymoon. The bride's travelling dress was of navy blue and oyster crepe-de-chine. She also wore navy blue shoes, sailor hat, and white French lace gloves, and carried a cocktail bag.

Among the many presents the bride received a silver teapot from the parishioners and linen from the parish Coronation Fete Committee. The bridegroom was presented with book rests by members of the Bruton Parish Church choir.
