LATE MR. W. H. COATE, OF BRIDGWATER

IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL AT MIDDLEZOY

In spite of torrential rain, a large number of friends attended the funeral at Middlezoy Parish Church on Wednesday afternoon of Mr. William Henry COATE, of “The Elms,” Wembdon, who died on Sunday at the age of 65.

Mr. COATE, who was a native of Stathe, was well known in Somerset, having for many years carried on business as an agricultural produce merchant, dealing chiefly in hay and straw. After a short period at Burrowbridge, he moved to Bridgwater, where he was in business at premises in Salmon Parade for about 30 years. He was a past-president of the British Hay Traders' Association. His health had been failing since his return from a visit to America last year, and he had been seriously ill for the past three months. Mrs. COATE died in 1931. There are three sons, one of whom, Mr. W. Oscar COATE, is a member of the Bridgwater Town Council.

The Vicar of Middlezoy, Rev. J. F. A. THOMAS, conducted the service in the church and at the graveside. The service was choral and Mrs. W. KEIRL was at the organ. “Rock of Ages” and “Abide with me.” were sung, and the 39th Psalm was chanted.

BOALCH (sister-in-law), Mr. Oliver KEIRLE (brother-in-law), Miss TARVER, Mr. and Mrs. F. House COATE (nephew and niece), Mr. Percy COATE (nephew), Mr. and Mrs. SHEPPY (nephew and niece).

FRIENDS PRESENT.

There were over 50 beautiful floral tributes, including wreaths from the Council and members of the British Hay Traders' Association, London tenants at Quantock Mansions, the directors of the Glastonbury Brick, Tile & Pottery Co., and the staff and employees of Coate's Fencing, Ltd.
