CURRY MALLET

KING'S BIRTHDAY HONOUR. - Mr. Mead SLADE has been awarded the C.I.E. in the King's birthday honours. Mr. SLADE, who is in the Indian Civil Service, is official secretary to the Government of India (commerce department). He is the eldest son or Mrs. Sydney SLADE, of “Beer Cross,” Curry Mallet, and the late Mr. S. SLADE.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE COMPETITIONS
The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held on Friday, at Stowey Farm, by kind invitation of Mrs. Howard CHEDZOY. Mrs. E. GLIDE (president) presided over a good attendance. Mrs. ROWSELL gave an interesting report of the annual N.F.W.I. meetings, held in London, and Miss REES-MOGG a talk on “Income-tax and rates."
Two competitions were judged by Mrs. A SLADE and Mrs. G. WILLY, who awarded full marks to the following members:- Best bunch of wild flowers, Mrs. H. PRIDDLE and Miss P. DIBBLE; runner-up, Mrs. B. PREW. Highest marks for the gardening apron competition, Mrs Fox; runner-up, Miss M. KEATES.
Tea was provided, after which games and competitions were enjoyed. The President, on behalf of the members, expressed thanks to Mrs. CHEDZOY for a very pleasant afternoon.

FUNERAL OF MRS. A. PRIDDLE
The death took place on Friday of Mrs. Alice PRIDDLE, of Curry Mallet, after a long illness. She was 42 years of age. Sympathy is felt for the husband, Mr. Albert PRIDDLE, and their two sons and three daughters.
The funeral took place on Monday, at the Parish Church, conducted by the Rector, the Rev. H. C. TRITTON. Mrs. E. GLIDE was at the organ. The hymns were “O God, our Help in Ages past” and “Abide with me.” The 23rd Psalm was chanted.
The mourners were:- Mr. A. PRIDDLE (husband), Messrs. Richard PRIDDLE and Ronald PRIDDLE (sons), Miss Mary PRIDDLE and Miss Winnie PRIDDLE (daughters), Mr. George PRIDDLE (father), Mrs. BRYANT, Mrs. A. BURT, Mrs. T. BURT, Mrs. WARD, Mrs. SHEPHERD, and Mrs CANNON (sisters), Mr. C. PRIDDLE (brother), Mr. N. PLAYER (son-in-law), Mrs. WHAITES and Mrs. HECTOR (sisters-in-law), Mr. A. WARD and Mr W. DUKE (brothers-in-law), Mrs. L. LOCK and Miss E. DUKE (nieces). Mr. C. HECTOR (nephew), Mr. A. PLAYER (friend). Mrs. N. PLAYER, daughter, was absent through illness.
The bearers were:- Messrs. F. PLAYER, F. CHORLEY, A. PRIDDLE, and T. PRIDDLE.
There were many beautiful floral tributes.
