FETE
PROCEEDS FOR WAIFS AND
STRAYS SOCIETY
In aid of the Waifs and Strays Society a garden fete was held at “Summerlands” on Thursday, by permission of Colonel J. R. PAULL, O.B.E., and Mrs. PAULL. The event was organised by Miss Betty PAULL, the local secretary, and the opening ceremony was performed by Mrs. KEMMIS, of Chilworthy House, who was introduced by the Vicar (the Rev. Gerald G. HICKMAN). Mrs. KEMMIS was thanked by the Rural Dean (Rev. H. C. TRITTON, of Curry Mallett) and Miss PAULL presented a bouquet to Mrs. KEMMIS.
The helpers were:- Sixpenny stall - Mrs. and Miss COATES. Sweet stall - Mrs. and Miss JACOBS, Seavington. Garden produce - Miss B. PAULL and the Misses MARTIN. Cake stall - Misses LANGDON and BOARD. Teas were served by Mrs. BALL and Mrs. NORTH, and competitions were run by Misses MARTIN, YANDALL, and DUKE.
A sketch, written by Mrs. R. Lovett TURNER, entitled “Her Grand-children,” was performed by Mrs. HUNT, Mrs. VINE, Misses WEBB, JONES, and PENNINGTON, and Pat FAIRS, Kathleen BARNES, and Doris PARSONS.
