ILTON

CHILDREN of the Parish Church Sunday School had their annual outing on Tuesday, when they went to Weymouth, a number of parents and friends also accompanying the party. Mrs. ROGERS acted as organiser, and tea was provided for all the children. A happy day was spent.

DEATH OF MISS BESSIE YOUNG

Miss Bessie YOUNG, who died last week, at the age of 57, had been in poor health for some years. A native of Ilton, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward YOUNG, and lived in the village throughout her life, save for the war period. A member of the congregation of the Parish Church, she was a keen worker on its behalf and actively interested in all branches of its work. During the war, despite the handicap of ill-health, she worked in France with the W.A.A.C. Since then she has been an ardent worker with the Red Cross at Chard. She will be greatly missed in the district where she was known as a friend to all.

The funeral on Tuesday at Ilton Parish Church was conducted by the Rev. J. E. ROGERS, vicar of the parish, assisted by the Rev. E. H. VAUGHAN JONES, a former vicar. In accordance with the wishes of the late Miss YOUNG, the Vicar conducted a short service at the house for the family before the cortege left for the church.

The family mourners were Mr. and Mrs. T. STARK, Compton Bishop (sister and brother-in-law), the Misses Amelia, Annie, Edith, and Mabel YOUNG (sisters), Mrs. POOLE, Chard (cousin), and Mrs. MORRIS, Forton (friend). Mrs. AXHORN, Mrs. NORRINGTON, and others represented the Chard V.A.D., and many friends and neighbours came to pay their last tribute of affection. The floral tributes included wreaths from the Chard V.A.D. and from members of the Ilton Mothers' Union.
