SEAVINGTON
CHILDREN of the Church Sunday School were entertained by the Rector (the Rev. H. NAISH) at a party, a feature of which was a gaily illuminated Christmas tree. After tea the children enjoyed games and dancing, and then Father Christmas (Miss Mary KIDDLE) distributed presents to each child. Before leaving thanks were accorded the Rector for giving the party.
DEATH OF OLDEST INHABITANT
LATE MR. WILLIAM SWAIN
Mr. William SWAIN, who died on Thursday at the age of 90, was the oldest inhabitant of the village. A native of Seavington, he spent all his life in the parish, and took a keen interest in all local activities. He started work at the age of 8, his wages being a shilling a week, and married when he was 19.
The funeral on Monday was conducted by the Rev. A. H. MILDREN, Methodist minister, of Ilminster. Family mourners were: Mr. Frank SWAIN (Yeovil), Mr. Bert SWAIN and Mr. Mark SWAIN (sons), Miss E. SWAIN (daughter), Mrs. H. SWAIN and Mrs. M. SWAIN (daughters-in-law), Mr. H. BRAKE and Mr. Sidney SWAIN (grandchildren), and Mr. W. WEBB. The bearers were Messrs. R. WOODLAND, W. BONNING, N. LUKINS and E. STUCKEY. Other present included Messrs. S. R. and J. JACOBS, for whom he worked for over 25 years, and Mr. W. WEBB. The floral tributes included wreaths from the Wesleyan Church and from Messrs. S. R. and J. JACOBS.
