A SPLENDID EXAMPLE

VILLAGE A.R.P. PLANS COMPLETE.

LIST OF VOLUNTEERS.

Arrangements for precautionary measures in the event of air raids have now been completed in North Petherton.

Since March last 50 residents have qualified for A.R.P. badges and a similar numbers have recently attended a series of first aid lectures kindly given by Dr. H. TENNISON BEGGS. The capable organiser for the village is Mr. R. N. C. GROVE, and the British Legion has provided eighteen air wardens, under the supervision of Mr. A. LAVIS.

EVERY RESIDENT FITTED.

Every resident has been fitted with respirators and 1,800 have been requisitioned for the area covered. The Memorial Hall has been selected for the first-aid post and Mr. F. TRENCH has kindly offered the use of his covered car park as a shelter.

At a meeting of wardens held at the Memorial Hall on Friday evening, it was announced the following persons had been attached to the various posts:-

No. 1 post first-aid station in charge of Dr. H. TENNISON BEGGS. Air wardens, Messrs. R. N. C. GROVE, A. PORTER, C. W. CLATWORTHY, W. GIBBS, and A. J. BRADBEER. Clerks, Messrs. W. D. McCREATH and H. SHEPHERD. Stretcher-bearers – Messrs. T. H. FRANCIS, W. COURT, A. TURNER, and A. A. SEARS. Casualty attendants – Mesdames H. TENNISON BEGGS, W. JONES, A. BURFORD, P. BRYANT, H. MURLEY, S. HUNT, Misses D. CALLENDER, A. HOBBS, M. WILLIAMS, A. JENKINS and A. L. RUMSBY. Reserves – Mesdames E. NELSON, DUNN, B. PIERCE, W. POCOCK, C. STONE, H. SHEPHERD, F. GUNNINGHAM, SMALL, HAGGETT, and SEALEY. No. 2 post, Taunton-road, West. Air wardens – Messrs. R. A. WATTS, A. JONES, W. CARKETT and J. MAJOR. No. 3 post, Pilot Elms, Air wardens – Messrs. E. HARDWIDGE, E. WIGLEY, and C. H. GRAY. No. 4 post, Shovell. Air wardens – Messrs. H. GIBBS, A. UPHAM and W. LOVELL. No. 5 post, Huntworth. Air wardens – Messrs. S. HUNT, J. PARSONS and T. LAVIS. Ambulance drivers – Messrs. J. M. TOWNSEND, J. BOND, F. MARKS and S. H. BELL and Mesdames C. GROVE, W. D. McCREATH, W. COURT and Miss BRADBURY. Repair and rescue squad – Messrs. W. POCOCK, A. W. WATERJOHN, J. G. SELLICK, S. C. WILLIAMS, A. J. STRONG and H. FORGAN. Messengers – Masters J. COURT and D. HUBBARD. Any persons willing to become voluntary workers are requested to notify Mr. R. N. GROVE.
