BRICK LAID BY CENTENARIAN

NORTH CURRY CEREMONY UNAUTHORISED

The Housing Committee reported to Taunton Rural Council on Wednesday that from a notice in the Press it appeared that a brick with the following inscription had been laid in one of the cottages being erected at North Curry, known as Cricket Cottages:- “This brick was laid by Mrs. Emma Coate, aged 107 years. April, 1938.”

The Clerk added that no application for permission to lay the brick had been received by him, and none of the officers of the Council had been consulted.

It was resolved that the Clerk be instructed to communicate with the contractors and inform them they should have obtained the consent of the Council before they permitted the laying of the brick.
