BRITISH LEGION'S THANKS

The quarterly meeting of the North Petherton and district branch of the British Legion was held at the Church Sunday School Room on Friday evening, Major R. J. SEYMOUR presiding.

Members paid silent tribute to fallen comrades.

The Chairman said the Secretary was unable to be present owing to indisposition.

Major SEYMOUR thanked the Ladies Committee for their work in connection with the dinner, and it was decided to write thanking those who gave gifts for that evening.

It was decided to grant 10s 6d towards the Church Sunday Schools Renovation Fund, and to thank the Vicar for the use of the room.

Five new members were elected, and enrolled.

To enable members to attend a conference at Stogursey on April 5th, it was decided to hire a 'bus, and to pay a portion of the charges from branch funds. Members wishing to go are asked to give their names to the Treasurer, Mr. W. CLATWORTHY. The 'bus will leave the village at 6.30 p.m

The meeting approved of a payment being made to the county funds. The suggestion to arrange an outing during July was received with enthusiam, and members interested were requested to notify Mr. UPHAM before 15th April. A meeting will be held after that date to make arrangements for the outing.

CRICKET CLUB CRITICS

APPEALS FOR CO-OPERATION.

Mr. W. D. McCREATH presided at the annual meeting of North Petherton Cricket Club held at the George Hotel, on Wednesday evening. There was a large attendance.

The Hon. Secretary, Mr. A. STRONG, reported, that twenty-three fixtures were arranged for the season, of which ten were lost, seven won, three drawn, and three cancelled owing to bad weather. A good fixture list had been arranged for the coming season, including a match in aid of Wellard's Benefit Fund, on September 4th.

The Secretary read a letter from Mr. G. CARNE WILLIAMS resigning the office of President of the Club.

It was decided to send a letter thanking him for his support and regretting his resignation.

Mr. JONES contended that the Captain had not received the co-operation of the players as he should have done during the season. Some players acted in an unsportsmanlike manner, and played more for individual praise than for the love of the game. The Club lacked the necessary support, and would not improve until it was re-organised.

The Captain (Mr. J. SELLICK) said he was afraid this was due to one or two members, but the matter could be remedied. The condition of the playing pitch during the season had been criticised, but this was due to the wet season.

DEBIT BALANCE.

The Hon. Treasurer, Mr. G. CARTER, presented the balance-sheet showing receipts amounting to £10 13s 11d, and an expenditure of £16 4s 7d, making a loss on the season of £5 10s 8d.

The Chairman said the Club had carried on at a loss during the last few years. He appealed for more generous subscriptions and for more playing members; last season there were only 13.

Mr. B. CLATWORTHY said a fete was being organised jointly with the Rugby Club during June in the grounds of Shovel House, by kind permission of Brigadier-General and Mrs. NELSON, in aid of the funds of both Clubs.

Officials elected for the ensuing year were:- President, Mr. W. D. McCREATH; Hon. Secretary, Mr. A. STRONG; Hon. Treasurer, Mr. F. JONES; Captain, Mr. J. SELLICK; Vice-Captain, Mr. F. JONES; Umpire, Mr. H. GRAY; Scorer, Mr. E. PALMER.

The Committee was re-elected with the addition of Mr. R. HADDON, Mr. H. FORGAN, and Mr. E. POCOCK; Selection Committee, Mr. J. SELLICK, Mr. F. JONES, Mr. H. GRAY, Mr. A. STRONG, and Mr. E. POCOCK.
