CENTENARIAN IN PENSION MARCH.
Among old age pensioners who demonstrated for increased pensions at a Porth (Glam.) May-day procession on Monday was 100-year-old Mrs. Sarah HAYES, of Trebannog. With her was Mr. A. NICHOLAS, aged ninety. Mrs. HAYES went by 'bus from her home two miles away, and walked through rainy streets with 200 old people carrying banners. A petition of 50,000 signatures is to be sent to the Government demanding pensions of £1 a week. Mrs. HAYES was 100 last Christmas-eve. She was critically ill sixty years ago, and her doctor brought her a pipe instead of medicine. She has smoked it ever since.
