FIVEHEAD

PARISH CHURCH WEDDING

P.C. G. W. BROOKS AND MISS SALWAY

The wedding took place at St. Martin's Church on Saturday, in the presence of a number of guests and villagers, of Mr. George Wrexworth BROOKS, late of Plymouth, but now a police constable at Taunton, and Miss Phyllis Lucy SALWAY, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward SALWAY, of Webbers Villa, Fivehead. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Cyril SALWAY, wore a full-length dress of cream lace, over taffeta silk, with veil and a posy of garden flowers. She carried a muff of pink and white rose-buds. She was attended by four bridesmaids, the elder ones – Misses Grace and Rosemary LENTON (cousins of the bride) – wearing mauve organdie dresses with ivy-leaf design. Little Edna and Margaret BROOKS (nieces of the bridegroom) were dressed in mauve floral organdie. They all wore garden flowers in their hair, and carried muffs of coloured flowers to tone with their dresses. Master Dudley BRYANT, the bride's nephew, acted as page, dressed in cream silk. The bridegroom gave the three elder bridesmaids bracelets, and the smallest girl a pendant and the page a gold initialed tie-pin. The bridegroom's brother was “best man.” The Vicar (the Rev. G. C. FRY) preformed the ceremony, which was fully choral. Miss HILLARD played bridal music as the guests arrived. The hymns sung were “The Voice that breathed o'er Eden.” 'Lead us, Heavenly Father” and “Love Divine and Golden.” As the bride and bridegroom left the church the “Wedding March” was played.

A reception of relatives and friends was held at the Lambert Hut. The honeymoon is being spent at Bournemouth, the bride travelling in a blue floral silk dress, with coat and hat to tone, there were about 60 presents, including a gift from the bridegroom's colleagues of the Taunton Constabulary. Their future home will be at Milverton.
