STOKE ST. MARY

50 YEARS ON SAME FARM

LATE GEORGE BAKER'S RECORD

Almost 50 years' constant employment at Broughton Farm, Stoke St Mary, Taunton, was the record of George BAKER, of Broughton Stoke St. Mary, who died on Tuesday of last week, aged 59 years.

He was born at Broughton, being the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles(?) BAKER, and had lived in Stoke St. Mary all his life. At the age of 10 he went to work at Broughton Farm for the late Mr. John RENDELL. When Mr RENDELL retired, George BAKER was employed at the same farm by Mr. J. B. HUNT. In 1913 the farm was taken over by Mr. E. J. DAY, who retained the services of George BAKER until his death, which took place after only two days' illness.

He was well known in the district among agriculturists, who spoke of this capabilities. His whole life was devoted to his work, and to the team of horses of which he was in charge.

THE FUNERAL.

The funeral took place on Saturday, at Stoke St. Mary, the service in the Parish Church being conducted by the Rector, the Rev. William SINGLETON.

The principal mourners were:- Messrs. Charles and Frank BAKER (brothers)(?), Misses R and A BAKER Mrs. F. MARCHENT, Mrs. H. COLES, and Mrs. W. BURGESS (sisters), Mr. Bob PIKE, Mr. Jim BAKER and Mr. George BAKER (nephews), Miss Edith COLES and Miss Doris BAKER (nieces), Mrs. F. BAKER (sister-in-law), Mr. F. MARCHANT and Mr. W. BURGESS (brothers-in-law), Mr. R. REED, Mr. J. PEARCE, and Mrs. E. WATTS (friends), and Mr. E. J. DAY (employer).

Many other friends and parishioners attended the funeral service and there was a large number of floral tributes.

The funeral arrangements were made by Mr. Leonard E. SMITH, Haydon-road, Taunton.
