NORTH PETHERTON
SCOUTS IN SKETCHES
There was a large attendance at the Memorial Hall, on Thursday evening, when an enjoyable variety concert was presented by the local troop of Boy Scouts, in aid of their funds.
The programme included recitations, songs, and short sketches, entitled “The Good Turn Scout,” “Reward,” “Boggarts and Brownies,” and “Election Time.” The concert concluded with a camp fire and sing-song.
A further performance of the concert was given last evening.
NORTH PETHERTON BRIDE
At the Parish Church on Sunday, Miss Meta PARKER, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. PARKER, of Newton-road, was married to Mr. Victor HOLE, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. HOLE, of North-street, Bridgwater.
The Vicar, the Rev. J. ADDY, performed the ceremony.
The bride, who is well known in the village, was employed at the Post-office for a number of years.
Given away by her brother, Mr. C. PARKER, the bride wore a navy blue costume, with a spray of white carnations and fern. She carried a silver horse-shoe.
Mr. G. POPE, a friend of the bridegroom, was the “best man.” A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, about 40 guests being present.
The couple received many useful presents.
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
Mrs. W. D. McCREATH presided at the March meeting of the Women's Institute held at the George Assembly-room on Friday evening.
Mrs. C. F. HAWKINS was elected delegate to attend the annual meeting at Taunton.
Mrs. JONES gave a report of the Group meeting held at Burton.
Mr. POWELL gave an interesting talk on small house gardens, and in reply to questions he offered some good advice on various gardening problems. - The lecturer was thanked by Mrs. H. TENNISON BEGGS.
There was a good entry for the hyacinth competition. It was judged by Mr? POWELL, who praised the high standard of the exhibits. The prize-winners were:- 1. Mrs. S. SELLICK; 2, Mrs. E. J. ROGERS.
Tea was served by Mrs. C. W. STONE and helpers. The social half-hour was spent in singing Somerset songs, and a dialect reading was given by Miss J. TODD.
