TAUNTON WAR RELICS FETCH £47

MORE RAILINGS WANTED

The Mayor of Taunton told the “S.C.H.” this week that £47 had been received from the sale of the old tank and howitzer in French Weir. This is being sent to the local Red Cross Fund for their war hospital depot.

Last week we announced that the Mayor had decided to remove the railings around his house and to give the metal ornaments in his home for the scrap metal collection.

People must be prepared to give all the metal they can spare for this campaign,” he said. “It is not enough to offer those things we do not want. We must give away even things we value. There must be many yards of railings in this town that could be removed.”

The Mayor also said that the supporting fund for the Red Cross had not grown much recently and he appealed for further subscriptions. The total to date was only £160.

He added that the penny a week scheme for the Red Cross was taking root. So far 63 firms in the Taunton area had agreed to join, and by the end of May £74 15s 5d had been subscribed.
