FORMER WELLINTON RUGBY PLAYER

MR. WALTER OATEN FOUND DEAD

Mr. Walter OATEN, of 40, Pope's-lane, Rockwell Green, a former well-known Rugby player, was found dead in bed on Thursday afternoon.

He had been ill and medically attended for some time. He was 52 years of age.

Mr. OATEN volunteered at the outbreak of the Great War and served throughout the campaign.

He formerly played for the Wellington Rugby Club, and also assisted Taunton and Bridgwarer <sic>. He was a keen billiards and skittles player.

He leaves a widow and family of six children; one son is in the Army. A sister is Mrs. H. J. THORNE, of the Eight Bells Inn, Wellington.
