NORTH PETHERTON

THE FUNERAL tool place at the Cemetery on Saturday of Mr. Richard James MARKS, aged 69 years, whose death was reported in our last issue. The Vicar, the Rev. J. ADDY, officiated. The chief mourners were:- Mrs. MARKS (widow), Mr. E. MARKS (son), Mrs. I. GRAY, Miss R. MARKS, and Miss D. MARKS (daughters), Mr. W. J. MARKS and Mr. J. MARKS (brothers), Mr. G. BOWN (friend).

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE DANCE. - A company of 150 attended a dance organised by the Women's Institute, in the George Assembly Rooms, on Thursday evening. The room was attractively decorated with “cellophane” streamers and flags by members of the Institute. The Blue Star Players provided the music, and Mr. W. COATE was the M.C. Winners of the musical chairs competition were Miss CROSS and Miss J. SELLICK.

LATE MRS. E. GUDGE. - The death occurred on Thursday last week, after a long illness, of Mrs. E. GUDGE, of Farringdon. Mrs. GUDGE, who was 51 years of age, came to reside at Farringdon from Crewkerne about two years ago. She leaves a husband, two sons, and two daughters, for whom much sympathy is felt. The funeral took place at the Cemetery on Tuesday, following a service at St. Mary's Church, conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. J. ADDY.

WEDDING OF MR. L. G. KEARLE AND MISS IVY W. TURNER MARCHANT

The wedding took place at the Parish Church on Saturday of Mr. Leslie Godfrey KEARLE, son of the late Mr. W. KEARLE and Mrs. KEARLE, of Huntworth, and Miss Ivy Winifred Turner MARCHANT, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. MARCHANT, of Fordgate. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr. B. NICHOLLS, was attended by her sister, Mrs. B. NICHOLLS. Mr. R. JENKINS, friend of the bridegroom, was the “best man.”

POPULAR COUPLE

MARRIAGE OF MR. MILLER AND MISS PERRETT.

The Vicar, the Rev. J. ADDY, officiated at the Parish Church on Saturday afternoon at the marriage of Miss Aileen May Meade PERRETT, only daughter of the late Mr. W. T. PERRETT and Mrs. PERRETT, of 68, Ashleigh-avenue, Bridgwater, and Mr. Raymond John MILLER, only son of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. MILLER, of 3, St. Martin's-road, Portland.

The bride is very popular in the village, where she formerly resided, and many friends attended the ceremony. Given away by her cousin, Mr. F. JONES, the bride was charmingly attired in a gown of ivory satin, with wreath and veil, and shoes to match. She carried a bouquet of scarlet carnations. There were three bridesmaids, Misses Hazel and Marian SELLICK, cousins of the bride, who wore dresses of gold tafffeta, overlaid with silk net, with Juliet caps, and Miss Maureen OTTER, niece of the bridegroom, who had a dress of ivory taffeta and Juliet cap. They carried bouquets of mauve tulips and fern.

Mr. E. CARTER, friend of the bridegroom, was the “best man.”

Following a reception at the home of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. MULLINS, Mr. and Mrs. MILLER left for London, where the honeymoon is being spent. They received many useful and valuable presents.
