LATE MR. G. CARNE WILLIAMS

The death occurred on Sunday evening at his home, Batts House, North Petherton, of Mr. George CARNE WILLIAMS, a well-known figure in the life of Bridgwater and the surrounding district. Mr. CARNE WILLIAMS, who was about 65 years of age, was a director of the firm of Messrs. Starkey, Knight & Ford, Ltd., the brewers. He had been associated with the firm for nearly half a century, and had been the head brewer since 1899. Apart from his business interests, Mr. CARNE WILLIAMS was keenly devoted to hunting and cricket. He was a good judge of horses, and until a short time ago had regularly hunted with the packs in West Somerset. He had also frequently acted as a judge at gymkhanas in the district. He was a strong supporter of county cricket, and when possible attended the matches in Somerset. He had only been ill a short time following a chill.

Mr. CARNE WILLIAMS was of a very kind disposition, and will be much missed at North Petherton, where he had resided for many years. He was president of the local cricket club for many years, and vice-president of the Rugby Club and Horticultural and Gymkhana Society.
