NORTH PETHERTON
THE WEDDING of Mr. A. J. HOOPER and Miss E. K. WADAM, who are both deaf and dumb, is reported under a separate heading.
DARTS COMPETITION
At the Globe Inn last week three darts competitions raised £3 4s 8d for the Red Cross Fund. Two competitions were won by Mr. R. STOODLEY, with scores of 118 and 125 respectively, and the third by Mr. B. VERNON, 111.
EVACUEES' TRIBUTE AT FUNERAL
The funeral took place at the Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, of Mr. Albert Edward STEVENSON, who died at the Bridgwater Hospital on Saturday, following an operation. The Vicar, the Rev. J. ADDY, officiated
Mr. STEVENSON, was was 57, came with his wife from a South Coast town a short time ago to reside with Mr. and Mrs. S MILLER, of Hammett-street.
The mourners were Mrs. STEVENSON, wife; Mr. and Mrs S. MILLER, Mrs. MILLER, sen., and Mrs. A. SPENDER. Among others present were a number of evacuees from the town where Mr. STEVENSON previously resided.
There was a number of floral tributes.
ALLOTMENT HOLDERS' DRIVE
The Committee of the North Petherton District Allotment Holders' Association, at a meeting in the Memorial Hall on Monday evening, decided to arrange a public meeting to endeavour to increase the Association membership. A cup given by Mr. L. H. PALMER will be presented to the member with the best-kept allotment. All allotment-holders are invited to attend the meeting, when the benefits of membership will be explained.
It was announced that Mr. A. QUICK, chairman of the Committee, had secured a prize of £2 2s, presented by Messrs. RYDER's in connection with a “Grow more Food” competition organised by a London newspaper.
