MARRIED 55 YEARS
CHEDDON COUPLE'S ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. John WINTER, of 102, Park Gate, Cheddon Fitzpaine, celebrated the 55th anniversary of their wedding on Thursday, having been married at Milverton Parish Church on July 2nd, 1887, by the then Rector, the Rev. FOWLE. Thursday was also Mrs. WINTER's 75th birthday.
Mr. WINTER is a native of Preston Bowyer, and Mrs. WINTER was before marriage Miss Emma Jane JONES, of Milverton. They came to Cheddon 45 years ago, Mr. WINTER being employed at “Nerrols” for 40 years, mostly by the late Mr. Robert BRUFORD and also by his father. They are the oldest married couple in the parish. Mr. WINTER also worked part-time for the late Ald. J. E. KINGSBURY, a former Mayor of Taunton, for some years. Although now aged 82, Mr. WINTER remains hale and active. He still rides his tricycle in and out of town, and does all his own gardening. Mrs. WINTER has been crippled for some years, but manages to get about with the aid of a stick. Two of their three daughters are living. Mr. WINTER has been a member of the Milverton Lodge of the Order of Foresters for 50 years. A number of greetings and presents were received from friends to mark the happy event.
