TAUNTON SWIMMERS MARRIED

MR. W. H. J. MELHUISH AND MISS S. W. McHARDY

Two well-known Taunton and Somerset County swimmers, Mr. William Henry John MELHUISH and Miss Stella Winifred McHARDY, were married by the Vicar, Preb. F. C. FITCH, at Holy Trinity Church Taunton on Monday.

The bridegroom is the adopted son and nephew of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. RIDGE, 82, South-street, Taunton, and the bride is the second daughter of Mrs. McHARDY, Grove House, Canon-street, Taunton. Both have taken part successfully in local swimming championships

The service was choral. The hymns sung were “Love Divine” and “Lead us Heavenly Father,” and L.A.C LEADER, R.A.F. (friend of the bride and bridegroom), played suitable organ music

The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. L. G. HAYMAN, wore white satin cloque with train cut on simple lines, and veil held in place with a head-dress of lilies-of-valley and orchids. Her bouquet was of lilies-of-the-valley and white heather.

The bridesmaids were the Misses Dulcie and Pat McHARDY(sisters), and little Misses Joy DAVIS (cousin of the bride) and Margaret PARSONS (friend of the bride). They wore white net dresses with taffeta underskirts finished with blue. The Misses McHARDY wore shoulder veils of white held in place with blue top-knot of flowers, and the younger bridesmaids wore wreaths of blue flowers with white eye-veils. They carried muffs of white net finished with forget-me-nots.

The pages, Master David EVELEIGH (ocusin <sic> of the bride), and Master Peter CUMMINGS (friend of the bridegroom), wore long blue corded velvet trousers and white satin blouses

Mr. Tom MELHUISH, brother of the bridegroom, was “best man.” The ushers were Messrs. K. DARCH, H HAYMAN, and E DAVIS.

Following a reception at the bride's home, Mr. and Mrs. MELHUISH left for the honeymoon in London. The bride wore a blue crepe dress and Harris tweed coat, with accssories <sic> to tone.

About 50 useful presents were received, including a number of cheques.
