ILMINSTER

SUDDEN DEATH

Edward George WINTER (63), a pensioner from the Royal Naval Dockyard, Portland who resided at 2, Park View, Cricket-lane, was walking along Silver-street shortly after one o'clock on Monday, when he was seen to stagger and fall on the pavement. He was picked up and taken by a passing Army lorry to Dr. COURT's, but he passed away in the presence of the doctor before he could be removed from the vehicle. The body was removed to the Chard Mortuary and the facts communicated to the Coroner. A post-mortem examination was made on Wednesday by Dr. McGAFFEY, of the Taunton and Somerset Hospital who found that death was due to natural causes.

TANKS FOR ATTACK”

CAMPAIGN

ANOTHER GOOD WEEK

National Savings in the Ilminster and District Savings Committee's area for the week ended October 17th amounted to £3,363 made up of:- Certificates, £798; Defence Bonds, £1,145; 3 per cent, Savings Bonds, £200; deposits in Post Office Savings Banks, £1,220. Of this total, £2,626 came within the category of the Tanks for Attack Campaign and brings the six weeks' total for this purpose to £10,416 which just exceeds the cost of one light tank.

Last week's figures area as gratifying as those for the previous week. This is partly due to the increasing support of the street groups of Ilminster, and partly to the encouraging help of the villages. All the schools are now joining in the campaign. The Ilminster Grammar School for Boys has had a savings group for several years, but it has now been reorganised.

To come into line with the other 27 Savings Committees of Somerset £9,594 must be raised by November 14th. The Executive, therefore, asks for more helpers, more sacrifice, and more investments.
