CURRY RIVEL

A RECENT HOUSE-TO-HOUSE COLLECTION for Dr. Barnardo's Homes, organised by Mrs. G. DAVIE, raised £12 19s 4d. Helpers included the Misses DOMAN, Mrs. DELVES, Mrs. V. K. DAVIE, Mrs. TALBOT, and Miss June TALBOT.


BRITISH LEGION EFFORT

Another successful dance was held on August 25th at the Bell Hotel Assembly-room, in aid of the British Legion's Christmas Fund for local men in H.M. Forces. The dance was organised by the local branch of the British Legion. The Regal Dance Band played. Door stewards were Messrs. W. J. MOLES, E. WILLEY, J. and H. PERRY, and F. CHORLEY. Mrs. E. WILLEY and Mr. J. PERRY again provided refreshments for the band.


PARISH CHURCH WEDDING

The wedding took place on Saturday at the Parish Church between Mr. Gwyneth JONES, son of Mr. and Mrs. JONES, of Tonypandy, near Cardiff, and Miss Doris Louisa BURGE, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. BURGE, of 4, Westfield-road, Curry Rivel. The bride, given away by her brother, Sergt. T. BURGE, R.A.F., wore an ankle-length dress of blue with veil and headdress to match, and carried a bouquet of flame-coloured gladioli. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Una RUSTON in W.A.A.F. friend of the bride and Miss Lorraine BURGE (sister of the bride), who wore pale green ankle-length dresses and carried Victorian posies. The “best man” was a friend of the bridegroom. The Rev. J. H. T. MAUDE-ROXBY officiated. On leaving the church the bride was presented with silver horseshoes by the Misses Margery and Ruth BURGE (nieces of the bride) and Miss Joan CHARD and Master Michael DARVILL (nephew of the bride).

A reception at the Congregational Room was attended by over 40 guests. Later the bride and bridegroom left for Torquay to spend the honeymoon. They were the recipients of many useful and valu-recipients of many useful presents, including gifts from fellow-members of the bride's W.A.A.F. units. <typed as seen>
